I need more help training my pup to be a gun dog?

I have a 4 month old viszla/ german shorthair with great hunting lineage. Now i am trying to train him and he does okay with treats but as soon as i take him out or work with no treats, its all gone. I need to know the proper amount of discipline and love along with is this normal and how to get over it. He also likes to jump on people and i try to tell him not to all the time.
