Here’s what my research found. The "best" national organization is the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, (APDT). They are a professional organization of individual trainers who – in their own words – are committed to becoming better trainers through education. They have created a certification process. Here is a link to that……also there appears to be 7 different organizations that are considered "legit".

Welcome to the web site of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). The CCPDT is an international testing and certification program for professional pet dog trainers.

A good place to start is Association of Pet Dog Trainers. They offer training plus they can direct you to the additional training you will need.
